Tn this city strikes of various trades have taken place owing to the refusal of masters to grant the men a holiday on the ooaasloa of the labour demonstration. Several of tho masters, in order to prevent trouble, have conoeded tho mon's demands. The bricklayers who are out on strike attacked the blacklegs who had been taken on in their plaoea. A stubborn fight ensued, during which there was a good deal of bloodshed. The ringleaders were arrested. Madrid, 30th April. Orders have boen given for the soldiers to vemain in barracks to-morrow, in readiness to put down any disorder that might arise at the labour demonstration. Rome, 30th April. The Pope has written to tho Archbishop of Cologno requesting him to exhort the Bishops to mediate in the strikes whioh are •taking place in various parts of the Continent. Parib, 30th April. The supporters of Boulanger urge him to return to Paris, in order to take part in the labour celebrations. (Reoeived May 1, 12 40 p.m.) London, 80th April. Messrs. John Burns and Michael Davitt 'will deliver addresses at the labour demonstration on Sunday in favour of legislation fixing eight hours as the length of a day's work. The organised Trades Unionß are opposed to this step. Archbishop Walab, who is acting as mediator between the directors of the Great Southern and Western Railway Company and the men out on strike, is opposed to a compromise being effected. Sevoral of the signalmen were proseouted by the directors for deserting their posts. One was fined £10, and the charges against six others were withdrawn. The drivers state they will strike if the direotors engage blaoklegs. Those who are in favour of legislation fixing eight hours bb a day's work, and those who are against it, will ooeupy separate platforms at the labour oelobrations on bunday. The Socialists will support the view taken by the former. (Reoeived M,ay 1, 1.15 p.m.) Pabis, 30th April. At tho labour demonstration to-morrow sixty-ono trades will be represented. The trades which will not be represented total up to eighty-seven. Leading supporters of Gonoral Boulanger have left town, fearing: that if they remained they would be arrested. ,
