In the Appeal Court to-day judgment wai given in the case of Gowland and Arundale an appeal agaiuat a Resident Magistrate* judgment, that the appellant Gowland paj half the costs in an action brought ty Arundale against the Publio Works Depart ment for outting a dam at Patea. Th< appeal was dismissed. Masterton, This Day. Mr. Pownall, solioitor, states that th( result of the injury he received by a stone is loss sorious than was at first supposed He is now able to attend to business. Auckland, This Day. Sir Fredoriok Whi taker has resigned hit position as director of the Bank of New Zealand. Wanganui, This Day. An old soldier named John Grogan fell into the river yesterday and was drowned. The verdict was Accidental Death. The jury added a rider favouring doing away with the steps near where he fell in and substituting a " hard." Blenheim, This Dat.
