Supreme Court Sessions.

IBy Telegraph. I [UNITED PEESB ASSOCIATION.! Auckland, 15th September. The cose of Charles Aicken, who was charged with offering a forged oheque for -£65, drawn on the gank pf Now Zealand, was before the Supreme Conrt to-day. Mr. O'Moagher, for the defence, contended that the evidence did not disclose the fact whether the cheque was a valid order, and none of the witnesses were able to give any idea of the contents of the cheque beyond that it was for £65. He quoted the case of Regina v. Waters, heard before Chief Justice Prendergost, where the figures had been put in numerals instead of being written. Only secondary evidence had been given as i to the contents of tho cheque. The jury returned a verdict of Guilty, with a recommendation to mercy. His Honour reserved sentence, pending consideration by the Court of Appeal of the point raised by Mr. O'Meagher. The prisoner is in the meantime to be kept in custody.
