News from Kimberley.

i ? . Mr. H. Capon, of Boulcott-street, has . placed the following letter at our disposal :— s Kimbcrley Goldfields, 14th August, 1886. s _ Dear Friend— l now take the pleasure i in sending you these few lines, hoping they s will reach you in good health, as this leaves ; me at present. I have had a long and dreary i road of it since I last seen you, and am not ; done with it yet. I arrived in Cambridge j Gulf some time ago, and lam now on what i they oall the Kimberley Goldfields. Ido not , know whatever caused a rush here. There , has not one man cleared his expenses yet. There is about 3000 men here now, and I can confidently say there is not one man making wages. Men are clearing in hundreds every day, and more are not able to go. This rush will turn out to be the greatest duffer that ' was ever in the colonies. If it was in a place that there was any communication with the other colonies there would have ' been no rush here at all, but it is such an out-of-the-way place that men could not send word back to stop the rush until the J harm was done. Another report is that gold J can be got if there was water. Now, that is false ; also, there is no gold here to pay if they had the Mississippi river on to it. I ' must now come to a conclusion. I do not 'think I will stay much longer here. I am sending this letter down by a man who is clearing out, so I do not know when you will get it. But I thought I would write to you in cisc you might be coming here, as I myself have been properly had, and I would not like to see anyone else had the same way. Hoping this will reach you in good health, give my respects to Mr, and Mrs. and family, and believe me to be Your sincere friend, Charles Williams.
