Wellington Juries.
I — ♦ STRONG REMARKS BY MR. JUSTICE ; RICHMOND. Mr. Justice Richmond made the following remarks in the Supreme Court this morning | in discharging those gentlemen of the [ common jury whose services were not re- » quired either to-day or to-morrow : — ! Gentlemen of the Common Jury — Before discharging you, I have a word to say, and . I say it, you will quite understand, dcs liberately, in sorrow not in anger. It is my i deliberate opinion that in the criminal sittings you Tiave just been attending, the result has been that juries have been made ! fools of— that the Court has been deeply 1 degraded, deeply degraded— and that crime • has been encouraged. Gentlemen, I now 1 discharge you. 1 His Honour was visibly affected, enuring | the delivery of his observations.
