Gentry was a passenger from Picton by the Grafton this morning, bringing with him tho racehorse Orient, which is on its way to Wanganni to fulfil its engagement at tho steeplechase mooting next Monday. Mr. Parkes' Gossip has been scratched for all engagements at the Island Bay Birthday Meeting. Owing to tho improved state of tho weather the Island Bay course is rapidly hardening into good going. This morning a lot of work was got through by trainers having hones engaged at tho meeting to bo held on Monday. Ugly Buck and The Shah, who are both looking well, wont two rounds steadily. Cock-of-tho-Walk went two miles slow, moving as if troubled with sore feet. Maud and Loch Lomond did a good oxorcise canter, and wore then practised over tho hurdles. Reputation and Forward worked togethor. They did once round steadily, and then a mile at nearly top, both acquitting themselves well. Lifebuoy went a mile fast, and was then schooled at the hurdles. Melrose was worked much in the same manner. , Azatolla did one round fast.
