Railway Demonstration in Nelson.

A great demonstration in connection with the Nelson branch of the league took place thia afternoon in a paddock near the centre of the town, when it is estimated about five thousand persons were present, many having oome in from the country. Every place of business was oloaed for a couple of hours, the streets were decorated with fluffs, and bands tamed out, but there was no procession owing to a want of time to organise. The greatest enthusiasm prevailed, and the several speakers were cheered. The chief resolution expressed appreciation of the action of the Government, and of those members of the House who are loyally supporting the construction of the East and West Coast and Nelson Bail way, and called upon every member of the Legislature having the welfare of the colony at heart to support by every legitimate means the construction of the railway. Eesolutions expressing thanks for the loyal support reoeived in Canterbury and the West Coast were also reoeived with cheers.
