THE EXHIBITION.

The attendance yesterday was 1C64, 1307 of whom passed through in the evening. General satisfaction was expressed at the manner in whioh the children of the Sunday Hchool Union produoed the cantata "Im—anuel" l»st evening. The choruses were iiicoly balanoed, and the solo parts were rendered very suooessfully. Tho audience waa a large one. The performance was over by 9 o'olock, and the children were thus ■enabled to return to their homes at an early hour. The ohoir numbered over, 500 voices. Master Hill was leader of the oroheatra, the Jtov. P. N. Hunter aoted as conductor, and Mr. Hautt ie West accompanied on the organ. This evening Mr. Seager, of Christohurch, will exhibit some limelight views of the oothed.ndji of England, Mr. Keyworth giving tho descriptive lecture. " Aois and Galatea" is to be produoed on Tuesday evening, Madame Pauline Rita appearing as Galatea. On Wednesday and Thursday, probably, the operetta " Trial by Jury" will be given. MUTING OF THB IXBCUTIVE COKMITTEB. The usnal meeting of this committee was held at noon to-day at tho City Counqil Chambers. Present: Messrs. Zohrab (in the ohair), T. K. Maconald, J. Kitchen, O. Luke, D. Beeae, M.H.E., J. Hatoh, M.H.8., and George Fisher. Mr. Callis (Seoretary to the Exhibition) and Mr. C. Keyworth (Secretary to the committee). Mr. Beese stated that arrangements had been made to remove the oigan baok to the extreme limits of the ooncert hall, whioh would give increased accommodation for 700 pr 800 persons. The alterations would be proceeded with on Saturday night and would bo completed by Tuesday evening, so that no fnoonvenienoe would be experienced and no alteration in the programme would be ueooasary. Mr. Reese said that the Committee would be absolved from all responsibility bo far as the removal of the organ was concerned . . Mesnrs. Hatoh and Reese were re-appointed as a sub-oommittee to see tho alterations condupted. Aii expenditure for the erection of n, a mall stage and proaoonium was authorised. A spgrfeatipn made by Mr. A. The Chairman brought up the report of the subcommittee appointed last week to deal with the subject of a Friendly Societies demonstration, a digest of whioh has already been published. The Chairman also stated that the U.S.S. Company had suggested that the Wairarapa or Botomahana might be put on, by whioh trips might be made, the iteimer to oarry 1000 excursionists. The Takapuna, it was stated, burnt too much coal. Another suggestion had been made to hold a festival week and run oheap tripß from all parts of the oolony, whether on the ooast or in the interior. The matter was ona whioh he (tho Chairman) considered well worthy of consideration, as it waa a moßt praotioal one. He thought the festival should be held about the middle of Ootober. It was deaided that delegates of the varions Friendly Sooietiea Bhonld be invited to meet the committeo, with a view to arrange the programme for the festival' on Monday evening next, nt the Chamber o Commerce.
