The Heretaunga Light Horse.

The half-yearly general meeting of the Heretautsga Light Horse was held at the Railway Hotel, Lowor Hutt, on Saturday last, after tho usual weokly drill. Between 40 and 50 members were present, including Captain Scales and Lieutenants Izavd and Pringle. The Secrotary, Mr Holden, who has been most indefatigable in his oxortions for the benefit of the troop, road the minutes of a committee meeting that had been held daring tho week containingmany important resolutions, whioh wore unanimously adopted, amongst them being the alteration of ono or two of the rules, and the adoption of a regulation pattern spur. Two new members wore elected, bringing the streneth of the troop np to 60. Captain Scales ! pointed out the great necessity of members attending drill regularly, and referred to the remarks made by Captain Coleman, of the A.O. Foioe, w'aO has been out to the Hutt onoe a week instructing the troop since the departure of tho Drill Instructor, Sergeant Lucas, for Blenheim. Troop Sergeant-Major Holdon also addressed the meeting on various points connected with musket instruction, and hoped that members would be able to attend a Eeries of lectures he suggested should bo given. It was next decided to hold a cavalry ball early in August, and a committee was appointed to oarry out all tho necessary arrangements. Tho troop has done a lot of hard work in the way of drill since ifi start, and considering the short period of its existence tha members have Mastered their various exercises remarkably well. The best part of their drill is perhaps the exeoution of their monnted movements The sword exercise is, of course, one of the most difficult parts of their work to learn, and from the way they "shapo" at it now, we Bhall be much surprised if thoy cannot hold their own when called upon to do bo. We are glad to notice a marked improvement in the troop's horses. A rule has now been in force some months prohibiting any froah horses under 15 hands from joining the ranks. Parades are ordered for each Wednesday and Saturday (exoept 18th inut ) during the next three weeks at Petone drillshed and Alicetown respectively, and it is most important that members should atfconc!, especially as the Saturday parades are called in order to pass men for oapitatiou. Wellington has been withont a cavalry troop for many years, and now that wo have one each member should feel it imperative on him to assist to his utmost to make the corps ono that we can be proud of.
