-♦ [PBB HAUHOTO.I Stdnbt, 4th July. Most of the Contingent have returned to their homes,' and have resumed their employment ; many are, however, still hanging about the city. The Premier has mado a minute that, all other things equal, members of the Contingent were to have the preference for employmentin Government offices, and were all to be accepted. The Cahors inquiry is proceeding. Captain Walker and his officers state that at the time of the accident the weather was thiok with blinding rain. The Geographical Expedition has arrived at Thursday Island. The Minister of Public Works has promised to give the preference to local iron works in the building of railway bridges. Adelaide, 4th July. The condition of the Unemployed is deplorable. Temporary relief is being afforded. The exports of breadstnffs for the onrrent year to 27th June amount to 10,000,000 bushels.
