Coal-miners on Strike.

[BT TeIjEOBAFH.I [united tress association.] Grktkoutu, Ist June. The Coal Pit Heath minors have been on striko for tbo last week. It was thought they would go to work this morning, but no one rolled up when the whistle blew. The men have been paid 3s per ton hitherto and demanded 4s. The company offered 3s Gd, and the men then asked that the mine should be worked on the "cabling" system. It is supposed the men will go to work to-morrow or the next day, as they are divided in opinion on the matter. In consequence of tho striko the s.s. Taupo has been delayed Bince last Thursday. The Murray has been sen t North with only four trucks of coal. The Maori, Charles Edward, »nd Timaru are now waiting for coal. The Koranui will come in to-night, but there is no coal for her. The Taupo is not expeoted to get away boforo to-morrow. This Day. The strike amosgst the coal miners of the Coal Pit Heath mino ended last evening by the men resolving to go to work this morning. The price agreed upon is 3s 6d per ton, and the men to be allowed to "cable" for places or draw lota for the particular part of the mino they shall work in.
