The Sydney police are - actively engaged in investigating matter* > connected with the disappearance of tho 1 captain and part of the orew, but up till i this morning no arrests had boen made. One , of the seamen who took tho wator-lofrjjod ■ vessel into port is Averillo, a notable character, who has been frequently in gaol for laroeny, assault, &o. One of his most recent , freaks was an attempt to stab tho master of , a vessel, when ho was settlod pro tent with a belaying pin. It is remarkablo also that this same fellow took the schooner Louie into Noumea after Captain Pillingor had been lost overboard, whilo here he was under ' the notice of the police constantly.
