LICENSING MEETING.

The quarterly meeting of the Licensing Committee for the Te Aro distriot was held in the Fire Brigade Hall at noon to-day* Prtaent-rMeiSM. Blair (ohairman), Duthie, Robertson, and M'Eenzir. The first oase whioh ooonpied the attention of the oommittee was an application for the transfer of the lioenae for the Imperial Hotel from Daniel ToohiU to John Hamilton. Sergeant Anderson said he had inspected tbe hotel this morning, and fonnd that a portion of the flooring reported as defective* had been removed,, the; rooms h*d been papered where 'required, * and *ths <!*. Movements made had been generally satis lfaotory. At,the,la«t meeting ot the oommittee, however, it had been diolded that an arohiteot should report on the house, and thiß had eotf been done. Mr. Stafford raid his client laboured under a misapprehension in the matter. Ihe repairs had been faithfully vxeouted; but he waa unaware that an arohiteot's report was necessary. On Sergt. Anderson expresiing no objeotion, the application was granted. The cate of the Panama Hotel was noxt considered. It may be remembered that Mr. Patten, who was formerly the landlord of this hotel, was deolared a bankrupt shortly beforp the annual meeting |of the obmmfttoe, on whioh occasion Mr. Kirten, as trnstee.reoeived permission from the chairman to authorise Mr. | W. Bishop to carry on the bnsiness till to-doy. The oommittee granted a further extension of permission to Mr, .Bishop ±o oarry-onthe . business till 'next quarterly mooting, on oon- j dition that the promised repairs be finished J in the meantime., Sergeant >Ariderson said he believed the place had bean kept'in better order (inos Mr. Bishop had been in .posies- ¦ sion, before whioh time it was in a verydilapidated and sheokingly dirty state. Sergeant Anderson reported that the requisite alterations for providing better means of tsospe from fire had been oarried ou£ by the landlords of the Victoria Hotel, the Te Aro Hotel, the Brunawiok Hotel, and tho New Zeilandor Hotel Renewals of licenses wore accordingly granted in all these 1 oases, as also to the landlord of the Foresters' Arms on oondition of the necessary repairs being exeouted immediately. , The Committee then adjourned.
