SUDDEN RETURN OF SIR ARTHUR GORDON.
Hig Excellency the Governor, Sir Arthur Gordon, unexpectedly returned to New Zealand from his visit to Fiji botween 10 and 11 o'clock last night. He came in H.M.S. Emerald, which left Suva on Sunday, the 9th inst., and is accompanied by Miss Hamilton Gordon and Captain Knollys, aide-de-camp. The formal landing took place this morning at a quarter -past 9 o'clook. from the steps in the vioinity of tho Lion Foundry. The Bailors manned the yards, and a salute of guns was fired Accompanied by Miss Gordon and Captain Knoliys, His Excellency, who was received by two private secretaries, then walked to Government House. A small crowd of people collected to witness the affair, but there was no public demonstration of any kind. ______^_____ i ______
