THE PARIHAKA MEETING. SPEECHES BY TE WHITI AND TOHU. [By Telegraph.] [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION ]. Pungarehu, 17th October.

Tho Parihaka meeting t3ok place to-day. The returned prisoners having marched in, Te Whiti commenced his address at 10 o'clock a3 follows : — Tho God has always been living up to this time. The world waa already made by God long ago. These days have come to this generation. The quarrel has come forward to this generation. The yeais have come forward to this day. Several generations have passed by, and several troubles have passed by, and one has come to us now. The ems of man will bo beaten. i Thousands of seeds have slipped away— I seeds of kumaras, seeds of wheat — all seeds have departed. The seed of Israel has departed. In this day will bo made new the quarrelling which in ancient times was uplifted. Now, it will berenewed ; it has always been uplifted in every generation. The quarrel lifted up to this day ; it rests on me. The head of tho sin will be broken this day. Onr generation has been brought up in this day, and it will not bo undone. The heel of Kve was bitten by the serpent. The light will not enter to any man this day ; the sun will not shine; darkness will bo over the land ; tho largest stars of heaven will not give their light ; the strife will not be uplifted from Eve to this day. At raj word the fishes wriggle in the sea, the earth shakes, and the sea quivers ; the blood of tho prophets is lying on the earth, and will shake every generation. It is not a great nation nor a large hand that will put down the power this day ; it ia caused by God. The great nation and the little nation will diminish this day, there will not be peace in this day ; there is no one to soothe my trouble, not until it is finished. The hand of God stretch forth and raise up this generation. If yon are cutting a tree it is the hand of man lifts the axe ; if left to lie it will be rusted. The hand of Israel lifted our nature. This axe will be sharp, bnt the other will bo left and rusted. It is I who am speaking. The hen's ne&t that is left, a small child may break the eggs, and the chickens will have no mother to watch them. This talk is true in this year It was said in ancient time. Do not ba frightened ; listen to this word: the trouble will be upl.fted in this day ; strife will make it straight — the only thing to make it straight ; nothing else will make it straight but strife. It does not matter if thousands stand at Pnngarehu, thov will lie broken. Peaoe has been on earth by me, but it has not been listened to by great nations. If you are vexed about your land, come to me ; come close. There is nothing, but I am sure within, and darkness every year. I will not listen to the law, because within my heart I am dark this day. Every year I have been saying, "Be patient." If it is the spado that is in your hand, strike. No matter what is in your hand?, strike with it My heart is dark j within me. If the land is black with men, it | will shake them off This platform will be j always full, from one generation to another. If Pungarehu be dug with trenches, or filled with guns, it will bo broken ; it will not be left for another generation. If the Maori looks for good he will not find it. All the kings on earth will shout when this happens ; it will be dono in this day ; my word will be law in this day ; the law will be straight; it will not be turned to the north or the south. What I havo said, in any direction, there is only us to keep the law, and keep it straight. What I havo said is, never to look at the height or the strength ; it will all be broken down. There will not be any work of man left this day — not one good thing by man will be left ; it will bo all turned away and destroyed. Listen ! The strength or man has all departed from this year— the great man, the strong man, the wealthy man, he will not be understood this day; he must come to me. The gun will not be a protector for man in this day. Man must not look to the gun, the sword, or the spear for Bafety ; the tomahawk, tho sword will not be left for man this day. Let the man understand ; lot thf King understand. The entrenohment will be all filled in, tho money will not be left, the pun will be gone, God will be on earth in these days for ever and ever. The rich and the poor man must depart ; it will not bo a year, but to-day the strife will bo on earth. 'I he spear will not be for a man; every generation must be crushed; there will not be one left. Tho man that comes to strike will be killed himself ; the hand is small, but every generation will be broken this day. This day will be one of boasting, but there is no one who will subdue m% for I am determined. lam angry ; the trouble will be for man, and for all generations, my word will not be turned away from the north to the south, the gun will be broken, the name ouly of tho land that used to be ours is left. This day tho sea will dry up, and the four part 3of the earth will shake. Thousands of mon at Pnngarehu will fall this day. Te Whiti then retired, and Tohu spoke thus— lt was long ago that the law was laid down for this congregation of people ; loi g ago it was established. It is not my talk, neither is it my pointing out ; tuo morning and evening are talking this day. Great men are not great men this day ; strife is not new ; long ago. It is not I or you that have the strength this day, but God. Wo are only talking about strile now ; there is no one to quiet me ; there is only one day in front ; that is all. The fence ia in front of you ; all the sins of man havo been paid for by tho blood of man that has been spilt ; thero is only darkness thia day. All great men como here and white people ; they will not meet together. Long ago it w»3 appointed by God, as I have said. 'J rouble has come in front of me this day; there is no one to quieten me; hundreds and thousands that come to fight with me will all be dispersed ; this gathering cannot be broken up by thousands or millions If thousands come to Pun<rarehu they will bo dispersed by this assembly. This word is true. We will go and bo the ones to meet those that are coming, if it 13 like other times. What use is there in more talking P In the midst of us, like others, there have been two things left on earth from one generation to another — the money and the gun. Tho gun will not bo left for man to play with. The guns and money will vanish. God is standing up on earth thia day for this generation. This word that has been said is true. There is no one to keep peace. lam dark, this day Long ago, this was laid down before us. I am a dark man. I will not be quieted ; not one Maori man will be able to soothe me. If he come to quiet me, I will not look at him ; it is darkness with me, and that ia why I say so. lam not trying to soothe any man in this congregation; I am a bad man on earth this day. lam not a good man to the world, or for man either. I will lift up strife this day, and it will not be put back. Peace will not be proclaimed or strife prevented by anyone. Peace will not be proclaimed till the earth shakes and man drops off ; there will not be a bright spot — all will be darkness. 1 his house is full of spiderß' webs ; and what I have said Jb known by all prophets and wise men. It is well known ; and this word that has been paid by Te Whiti is true : The earth will shake and tho sea will quiver; the word is not false bat true ; this is the wisdom we have been learning all this year. Never mind how small we are, our greatness and our smallness have been foretold. It is not the trouble that is mak ng us small. The hand will be stretched forth, and the occupants of the land will be shaken off. The gites o' Parihaka are open ; they will not be closed nis^ht or day. None of these people will read the point of the sword. The door is open in front of us, aud tho man in front of us, too. 'J he lion's whelps are on the mountains tops. They are crying out ; their mouths are open anHl are shouting. Who cares for their shouting? Their necks will be little, and they will be strung up, no matter how the lions shout. Bring all your strength, bring all jour gun 3 thia day, and there is nothing to keep it back. The door is open — n^ne to shut the gates that will bo ! open. The man that is come to kill is standing in front of us ; behind is the talk. Ihis day there will be a large gathering ; it will not be a small o-ie — the horse-riders will fill this day ; all leaning against the Bhoulders of a horse will fall thia day. If there were thousands at Pungarehu they would be all scattered.
