ESCAPE AND RE-CAPTURE OF A PRISONER. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland. 20th July.
A prisoner named James Whittle escaped from Mount Eden stockade yesterday, and has not been captured yet. 'J his Dat. Tho prisoner Whittle, who escape 1 from the gaol, at first made for the Waitakerie ranges, bnt subsequently doubled bick towards town. Ho was apprehended last night at Otahuhu by Detective Brennan, who ascertained that his sister and hia mothor-in-law resided in the village. After patient waiting the man turned up, and was marched back to Auckland. Thero will be an enquiry into his escape
