DEEP-SEA FISHING.
to tfiu Editor otf thb KYBirifrafttßf . Sra.— You may perhaps be aware that I hive lately commenced what his long been considered « desideratum in Wellington, viz deep-sea fishing. At an expense of over £400 1 haVe- built and- fitted out the cutter Lena, and have established a station at Port Underwood..: During the trips she has made since starting we have landed on the average more than -would supply the market of the finest nsh of all kinds to be found in thete seas. Hitherto we have landed the fish at Mr. George Hunter's wharf, which, although not adapted for the purpose, and also causing much damage to my t>oat;'was the only place available. Now* however, I have received notice from Mr* Hooter that he will not allow any more fiih to tbe landed at . his whnrf. It is a question for the pnblic of Wellington as to whether they wiah to have a constant supply of fish at a cheap rate, but unless proper facilities are afforded me of landing my carfoM, the supply, ts far as I am concerned, must stop, and I must turn my vessel to other purposes. The City Council, if disposed to encourage my undertaking, might allow me to latiflnfljlh; at the Queen's wharf, which mlghXba gasjly, effected by the erection of a small TaMfng stage, which I would undertake to Mep^leftti ind-free from all unpleasantness. Wne'thec -.the- , General Government may t hl p£ jit worth ..while, in the interest of the public of Wellington, to furnish any spot in the harbor for the purpose indicated is for them to consider ; but I trust that for the sake of^Welltogtpa's name for progress the City Council will take the matter In hand and remove the obstacle which bids fair to put an end to " deep-soa fishing " I am, Sic., Hbnbt Bbrg.
