A confidential friend of Rewi's reports that he feels very much hart at the way he is being maligned by some of his people. Rewi declare* that he has promised the Government nothing. That he has made certain proposals, which he at present declines to make public until the proper time; those proposals being entirely on Tawhiao's behalf. That his relations with the Government will entirely depend upon their being accepted <n their entirety. Meantime he stands independent, pledged to nothing.
