DUNEDIN. 29th January.

In the District Court to-day James O'Brien, late lecturer for the American War Diorama, sued Harry Stanley, its manager, for £200, damages sustained by reason of Stanley having assaulted him at Mosgiel in December last. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiff in the sum of £60. 30th January. The Rev. Father Kelly, of Melbourne, delivered an address in the Temperance Hall, last evening, to a large audience, his subject being " Paris, her battles, seiges, and fortunes." The lecture was a very able onp, and was well attended. — In the case of Robertson v. Ross, the jury, after being locked up nearly five hours, brought in a verdict for defendant. The verdict of three-fourths of the jury was taken under an act passed last session, as the jury were not unanimous on all issues, but were unanimous on the point that they were not likely to agree as a whole on all questions involved in the case. In dismissing the iury, his Honor said he was sure both parties and the public would be exceedingly obliged to them for the great pains and trouble they had taken in this case. — A cowardly attack was made last night on the Artillery Band, near the corner of King and Union streets. As the band was playing and leading the battalion they were assailed by a volley,of stones. Sergeant R. Nogg, of the band, was seriously hurt, his nose having been broken, and several members of the band were struck, one on the back of the head. Several were saved by their instruments, which were, more or less, damaged. No one could tell whence the missiles came.
