MR. SHERWIN AND THE CUSTOMS AUTHORITIES.

Mr. Sherwin has given us (Melbourne Argus) the following explanation of his action in the matter:— Air. Sherwin states that before leaving Bombay he bought 27,000 cigars up ra three cases, and came as part of his personal luggage, and not as freight. Mr. Sherwin says he did* not intend to take the cases from the Customs control until he had sold the citato. He thought they would have been placed in bond, and that he would have paid the duty when he sold the cigars. Mr. Sherwin fe anxious to correct the statement that the cases were placed on the dray at the wharf at Wilhamstown. Instead of that, he says they were removed by the raUway department to the Customs sheds at Spencer-street.
