? ¦ Grey River. — The Argus of the sth reports as follows : — Friday Evening. The Customs dutieß collected at the port of Greymouth during the month ending April 30th amounted to £3832 0s Bd. The quantity of gold exported during the same period was 15,5330b 16dwts I2grs, the duty on which was £1941 14s Bd. Yesterday 8500oz of gold were shipped per Yarra, for export per s.s. Lord Ashley. We believe there are 10,000oz still in the hnnds of the Banks. No material alteration has occurred in the state of the market during the last week, and prices of most articles of consumption continue unchanged. Trade generally is somewhat dull, but there has been a rather better demand for the up-country diggings. The recent new discoveries on the North Beach terraces^ have caused a little ac'ivitv, and we may look for an improved demand. Aa there have been no additions to our stocks, prices may be expected to remain tolerably firm. Hokitika. — The Leader of yesterday thus reports of the business during the week : — Business during the week has been steady, but rather inactive, nothing more than tho average orders coming in from the country, and in town goods changing hands only to meet actual requirements. In prices, rates are maintained for spirits and wines, and the same may be said of ale and porter in bottle. Colonial beer in bulk continues to hold a preference, Flour continues to have a downward tendency, the latest quotations being for best Adelaide, £23 10s, and for Chilian, £18. In some sales, however, these prices have not been fully realised. In oilmens's stores, grocerips, &c , the market is fairly supplied, though cheese, hams, and bacon, continue scarce, maintaining last quotations The duty paid into the Custom House during the week amounts to £3021 2s. The quantity of gold cleared has been 8315 ozs. 8 dwts., on ivhich the duty amounted to £1039 os. The total amount of import duties collected during the month of April, £8184 15s. Total export duty upon gold paid during the month of April, £2^411 Is Bd, representing 22,732 ozs. N
