RED CROSS MEETING

There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Doyleston Red Cross Sub-centre, Mrs H. Smith presiding. Sympathy was expressed with Mr and Mrs Bray in the death of Mr Bray's father. The monthly newsletter from the North Canterbury Centre was a lengthy one. Details were published in last Friday's Guandian under the Leeston Red Cross notes.

Three ditty bags containing gifts of tobacco, chocolate, face cloths, shaving soap and a book for servicemen in hospital were completed! and the president undertook to deliver the bags to the rooms in Christchurch. During the month, one waistcoat, one dozen masks and two flannel vests were completed, also one arm sling, 13 splints and one tray from papier mache were finished and forwarded, to headquarters. The next meeting of the subcentre will be held on January 11. All members are urged to attend this meeting, as full arrangements will be made for the shop day to be conducted by the sub-centre in Christchurch ,on February 9* All residents of Doyleston are asked to give produce, clothing or donations. •Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Goss and Fussell. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE Tomorrow (Wednesday) evening at 8.30 o'clock, a meeting of members of the Doyleston Patriotic Committee will be held at which a good, attendance is desired. On Saturday evening (December 18) -the committee will hold the first of a series ,of socials, full particulars of which will be given in the next issue.
