ELLESMERE SUB-UNION
A "washing-up" meeting of the Ellesmere Rugby Sub-union wa& held on Monday night, Mr W. McLachlan presiding and the following delegates being in attendance: —Messrs H. Dalley, L. Kerr, P. E. UpSton, H. Kennedy, C. Hampton, O. Bailey, C. S. Simpson, C. F. Turner, B. Moran and the secretary, Mr G. A. H. Atkinson.
A grant was made to T. Carr who fractured a leg while playing in the Peninsula-Ellesmere Second grade match on July 15, and a grant for medical expenses was also made to D. Jones. The sum of £4 was granted to the United Club out of the "gate" of the United-Leeston second grade match played at Springston. Mr B. Moran was appointed to interview the school teachers on the north side of the Selwyn on the subject of playing for the schools shield. The annual meeting was fixed for the second Monday in April next year. On behalf of the sub-union Mr H. Dalley referred to the football players who were going on active service and wished them the best of luck. A number of accounts were passed for payment and the meeting closed with a vote of thanks' to delegates, referees, selectors, car-drivers, Messrs H. Gardiner, J. T. B. Purser, W. H. Cartwright, The Guardian and all others who had assisted the sport during the year. There was a special vote of thanks to the president and secretary for their work,
