SEDGEMERE
KITCHEN EVENING TO MISS PATTERSON.
In spite of the uninviting weather, a large number of friends from all
parts of the district assembled at the Sedgemere Hall yesterday for a gift evening, arranged by the spinsters and bachelors of Sedgemere, in honour of Miss Mary Patterson, whose marriage to Mr J. Laughton Reese takes place next week. The family to which Miss Patterson belongs has been associated with the Sedgemere district for considerably more than half a century, and has always been held in the highest regard. The attendance last night afforded proof of the personal popularity of Miss Mary Patterson, who has a wide circle of friends.
Messrs Eden Bros.' Band supplied music for dancing, the programme being under the supervision of Mr Frank Kimber as M.C. Prizes for a Monte Carlo went to Miss Maisie Amyes and Mr Robert Patterson. At euchre, in the anteroom, the most successful players were Mrs J. Burt, Miss Mary Teihoka, and Messrs J. T. Parkin and Herbert Patterson. After the ladies had served a genterous supper, Mr R. Stretz, on behalf of the spinsters and bachelors and the residents generally, asked Miss Patterson to accept a large number of useful and valuable gifts brought by those present for her future home. He referred to her association with the spinsters' and bachelors' committee, to the valuable help she had given on social occasions, and to the regard in which she was held. All present, said Mr Stretz, desired him to convey to Miss Patterson their very best wishes for her future happiness.
Mr Reese acknowledged the gifts and good wishes on Miss Patterson's behalf.
