NEW ZEALAND PORK

MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY AT

SMITHFIELD

Great interest was displayed in the special Christmas show of Empire pork arranged at their premises in Central Markets, Smithfield, by Messrs A. H. Simons and J. B. Swain, Ltd., reports the N.Z. News (London), a copy of which came to hand this morning Mr J. H. Thomas, Secretary of State for the Dominions, attended and was shown the magnificent exhibit of New Zealand pork by Sir Thomas Wilford, who was accompanied by Lady Wilford. Mr Thomas, in presenting gold medals for the winning exhibits, congratulated Messrs Simons and Swain, Ltd., on the display, which, with its holly and mistletoe decorations, presented a very festive appearance. The winning New Zealand exhibits were those shown by Mr Eliot Davis (gold medal) and the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Co. (silver gilt medal). The splendid quality of the New Zealand exhibit attracted many tributes from the large gathering of Smithfield experts, who, with a battery of photographers and cinematographers, formed the bulk of the audience. Mr R. S. Forsyth, London representative of the New Zealand Meat Pro- v ducers' Board, who was present, stated that, owing to the large supplies of English and Irish pork, prices for the New Zealand article had been depressed this season. But the quality of the pork was not reflected in the lowness of the"5 price. New Zealanders wishing to extend the' Dominion's trade could safely recommend New Zealand pork.
