Methodist Quarterly Meeting.
LEESTON.
The quarterly meeting of officebearers of the Leeston Methodist Circuit was held on Tuesday afternoon, (he Rev, W. A Sinclair, of Christcburcb, presiding over a fair attendance. Reports on, Sunday School work were of an encouraging nature, Mr Bayliss reported a small in* crease in church membership, v The financial statement presented by Mr I. W, Mawson showed a credit on the quarter's working. It was adopted as read, Two letters were received asking for financial assistance for carrying on church work at the Expedition* ary Force 'Training Camps, The Conference; had empowered the Wellington Military Committee to make an appeal to the Circuits throughout the Dominion for the funds necessary for the support of the valuable work. The church had a chaplain stationed at both Trentham and Featherston camps and the working expenses for stationery, lighting, heating, insurance, etc., were heavy A sum of £600 ■ was required. It was suggested that a special collection might be made either on Anzac Day, or Easter Sunday. The chairman pointed out that the money was not required for the payment of chaplains, as they received their salaries from the Government, A great deal of valuable work was being done in the camps by the chaplains. ft was decided to take retiring collections in all churches throughout the circuit on Easter Sunday. A circular letter was received from the •' Methcdist Times " Committee stating that nearly a year had passed since the " Times " bad been published under new management. So far the paper had met with gratifying success, but owing to the fact that printers 1 paper bad greatly increased in cost on account of the war, the Conference had decided to meet the altered conditions by increasing the subscriptions from 53 6d to 69 and by endeavouring to increase the circulation. It was decided to make an effort to increase the circulation of the •» Times " in the circuit. A hearty vote of thanks was1 accorded the chairman for his efforts in securing the re-appointment of the Rev. W. Grigg as minister of the Leeston circuit.
Mr Barnett reported that the arrers for insurance of the Taumutu Church had been met. The chairman reported that the missionary spirit in the Methodist Church was very strong. The Foreign Mission collection for the Dominion had increased last year by . 40 per cent and the Home Mission collections by a substantial sum.
