VINCENT HOSPITAL BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Vincent Hospital Board was held at the Dunstan ,Hospital on Wednesday 13th July when Hie folloAving were present: Messrs J. Ritchie (chair) S, T. Spain, J. R. Webb, D, Middleton, A. Scoular, W. Black, S, A, Stevens and Drs Harrison and Dr Brokenshire.

Leave of absence was granted Mr C, Weaver.

The Director General of Health wrote approving of the erection of additional shelters at the Dunstaa Hospital on the understanding that no capital levy is required for same.—As the meeting considered that a capital levy is necessary to carry out the AA'ork the secretary Avas instructed to again write to the Director-General for his re-consideration.

The Secretary of the Department of Health wrate forwarding the Board’s estimates for 1927-28 and approved of by the Minister. As these were incorrect the secretary reported having made out an amended copy, but no reply had yet been received. The Hospital Board’s Association wrote re widows’ pensions, for widows whose children were born out of N.Z. —As the Board had no such eases the letter was merely received. The Otago Hospital Board wrote re the admission of five Vincent patients to the Dunedin Hospital.—Received. The Foresters Lodge Otago District forwarded a cheque for £5 5s as a donation to the Board’s hospitals. Received, the secretary being instructed to acknowledge same with thanks. The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee wrote forwarding . a report of the last meeting.—Received. The chairman spoke in appreciative terms of the good work done by the chairman (Mr Matheson) the secretary (Mr Pryde) and his staff, all of whom had been re appointed. Matron Wilson, Cromwell Hospital reported for the month of June; —23 patients admitted, 15 discharged, while 17 remained in the institution on 30th June. Fees payable for month were £O2 ( 14s, and of this amount £39 15s was paid on the discharge of various patients. Matron McManus, Dunstan Hospital reported that June had been a very busy month, owing to the number of patients under treatment, and the effect of the (severe weather on Ihc water pipes. There was an improvement in the water supply now, as the pipes were being dug up and thawed. Miss Dunne, new probationer, commenced duties on the 24th June, r l he matron also reported on the difficulty ot drying clothes without a drying room. —Received. The question of a new drying room to be considered along with new laundry when making up estimates for 1928-29.

Dr Harrfson reported that everything was quite satisfactory, except the water supply which was left in the hands of the local committee was attended to ill the best possible manner. The staff were very busy during the month, surplus patients being sent to Clyde. Lack of accommodation was very marked. —Received, Dr Broken,shire reported for month of June : 13 patients admitted, 11 discharged, while l(i remained on 30th June. June was a very busy month owing to 30 patients being under treatment. The overflow of patients were sent to Cromwpll, Outdoor relief cases were considered and dealt with as under 1 discontinued as from 1-8-27; one reduced and 1 increased as from 1-7-27. The meeting at this stage was adjourned to allow members to inspect circulation system at the hospital with Mr Ellis, engineer of the Power Board. On resuming the ipeetipg it was decided to shift and install circulators in bathrooms, as the members and Mr Ellis were of opinion that the circulator was too far away fo ep,s\U'p a good supply of hot water. The visiting Committee reported on various matters requiring attention during the month af Cromwell Hospital. They suggested the planting of trees in certain exposed parts of the grounds. The Report was adopted, Accounts and salaries totalling ,6 98(10 9 were passed for payment.
