Earnscleugh B journeyed to Lowburn on Saturday where they sufiered defeat, after an even game, by 6 to 3Matakanui B went to Cromwell on Saturday where they wore beaten by 6 to nil. A meeting of the Clyde Club is called for 7.15 on Thursday night The all-absorbing topic of conversation in football circles this week is in connection with the Matakanui Alexandra match, which comes oft at Alexandra 'on Saturday The game should be well worth seeing, and it is sure to attract a big crowd. All Matak. and his wife will be there. At Alexandra on Saturday the home team beat Cromwell by 14 to 3. The field of play, usually in splendid order, was really not fit to play on. As the score indicates, the game was one-sided, the visitors being superior all round. In the first spell, playing with great dash, and getting away with a shocking amount of offside play, the visitors scored 21 points, but in the second half when there was a decided 'taking it easy” style about their play, they only added a penalty goal. The Clubs ground was quite unfit for football, portions of it being covered with ice, and the hockey ground (which was in fair order, but fairly hard) was used, standard goalposts being temporarily erected for the game. Clyde started off with fourteen men, and for some considerable time in the second were playing with only thirteen. Shortly after the start, how ever, another player came on for Clyde, but two were injured in the second half. It £was by no means a rough game, a pleasing feature of which was the friendly spirit in which it was played. The game was not long in progress before Matakanui opened their scoring account, Eric Naylor, who played a great game, scoring a try- Clouston’s kick hit the crossbar. Matakanui 3, Clyde nil. Not long after this Eric Naylor (yards off-side by the way) secured and dashed over to sorre. Clouston goaled. Matakanui 8, Clyde nil The visitors were getting the ball from the scrum and throwing it about but they gained little ground by ipassing. It was in the loose forward rushes that they excelled, and by this means they gained big stretches of ground- From one of these Alexander picked up, and running strongly scored a good try, which Clruston converted. Mataka--13, Clyde nil- A few minutes later a good rush, Jed by Pat Moran and Jack j Donnelly, saw the latter score. Clouston touverted. Matakanui 18 Clyde nil.
