A crowd of. about 300 people saw a ship burned out m the Strand, .Loudon, one night in March. The ship—a model, valued at £-,000. of the Orient-liner Oronsay— was in a large window in Australia House, and in front of it was an electric sign. People passing ou foot were surprised to sec the electric sign burst into flames which lit up the window and threw the model info brilliant relief. Slowly the flames crept towards the vessel, and in a lew moments tin' onlookers saw the stern on fire. A woman in evening dress ran into Australia House and gave the alarm. Aflor some minutes the 1011:. long model collapsed in the centre. When the first lire engine arrived the the firemen smashed a side window, and as they did so the huge plate glass window in the Strand hroks as a result of the heat. The firemen soon put out the (lames. Tim outbreak was caused hv Hie fusing of the electric sign.
