LAND BALLOT.

Thirteen sections in Crown Lands in the Manuherikia Setltement (between Clyde and Alexandra) were balloted for last Thursday. There were 32 applicants, but rejections (women whose husbands were applicants and others who failed to put in an appearance) reduced the number to 20. Of these 14 were returned soldiers or other preference applicants. Preference includes returned soldiers, married men with dependents, or those who have been twice pleviously unsuccessful at the ballotThe ballot resulted as undei — Section 1, 209 acres odd. Two applicants—Henry Mulqueen (Dunedin) at a capital value of £420 and half-yearly of £lO 10s.

Section 2, 178 acres odd, 3 appliants -A. Bruce, Alexandra, at capital value of £440, half-yearly rental £ll. Section 3, 148 acres odd, 3 applicants—John H. Timmings, at a capital value of £315, and an annual rental of £7 17s G.

Section 4, 42 acres—W. G. Turner, capital value £7O, annual rental 355. Section 5, 130 acres—Gilbert W. Lewis, capital value £2Bo‘ and annual rental £7.

Section 6, 289 acres; the largest section of the block—John T. Kelraan GalloAvay, capital value of £>sßs, and an annual rental of £l4 12s 6d.

Section 7, 257 acres—W, Pullman, Galloway, capital value £530, annual rental £l3 ss,

Section 8, 23 acres, 4 applicants John F. Williams, Dunedin; at capital value of £lO5, and annual rental of £2 12s 6d, Section 9, 60 acres odd.—Charles J. Dougherty, Fruitlands, capital value of £125 and an annual rental of £3 2 6.

Section 10, 52 acres, 4 applicants.— John Tohill, Dunedin, capital value «f £l6O, annual rental of £4.
