BOATS AS OMNIBUSES.
The equivalent of from 70,000 to 90,000 tons of water to the square mile was registered at Birmingham and Oxford, as well as at a number of places in the West of England, during a recent storm. So great were the floods around Evesham that boats plied for hire on the LveshnmCheltenliani Road. Many villages were isolated. Heavy flooding was reported from Bradford-on-Avon and Trowbridge. Many houses in Bath were flooded, and iu some instances the water flowed through the dwellings as if through a cu' vert.
