WEDDING AT POOLBURN

On November the ist a very pretty wedding which caused unusual interest was solemnised at Ida Valley Sttation, Poolburn, the contracting parties being Miss Barbara Weir, eldest daughter of (the late Mr Hugh Weir) and Mrs Weir ot Poolburn, to Mr John Shaw, son of the late Mr Shaw of Maniototo. The ceremony was conducted by Mr Swinard, the local minister. The bride who was given away by her brother, looked most charming in a craam satin frock with trimmings of pearl beads and real lace. The usual wreath and veil was worn, and she carried a pretty boquet of cream roses, and maiden hair fern. The bride was attended by her sister Miss Bella Weir, who looked most becoming in a dainty lavender crepe de chene frock, with low waisted effect and swathed belt, the body being worked with beads of contrasting shades; she wore a very pretty lavender hat with lemon trimmings, and carried a pretty boquet of lavender sweet Peas and Maiden hair fern. The duties of best man was carried out by Mr Hugh Shaw, brother of the bridegroom. After the ceremony the wedding breakfast which was arranged tastefully*, was partaken of, and the usual toasts were proposed and responded to The afternoon was mostly taken up by musical items, and songs by Messrs H. Shaw, W. Helmn, R. Mclntosh, T, Shaw, J. Mclntosh, and L. Anderson; piano solos w’ere rendered by Misses M. Mclntosh and N. Flannery. In the evening a dance was Indulged In and was very much enjoyed by ail who took part in It. Before the guests departed, which was in the early hours of the morning they all joined hands and sang ‘Auld Lang Syne' which brought a most enjoyable afternoon and evening to a close. The bride and bridegroom left towards the evening by motor for the Lakes, where they intend spending their honeymoon, amidst showers of confetti and the good wishes of a large circle of friends. The brides travelling costume was a travelling navy serge, and wore a pretty dove colored spring hat, with stencilling of blue and gold. The young couple who were very popular in the district were the recipients of a large number of handsome and costly presents, also several cheques. By a Guest.

A wedding of interest to local readers took place at Dunedin on Wednesday last in St Joseph’s Cathedral, when Miss Annie Holt (eldest daughter of Mr J. Holt, of Clyde) was married to Mr Fred Mason, of Messrs Fraser & Co., of Dunedin. The interesting ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Marlow. The bride was given away by her father, while Miss Ruby Holt (sister of the bride) was bridesmaid, and Mr Reg Watson was bestman. The wedding breakfast was held at Kroon’s, where over 50 guests were present. Immediately after the breakfast a dance was held. The week prior to the wedding the bride was the recipient of many presentations, including two from her late employers, Messrs Sargood Son and Gwen. The young couple will reside in Dunedin.
