TENNIS.
The Becks Hall was packed on Wednesday last at the Concert in aid of the Becks and Lauder Tennis Court Funds. The Rev. A. V. G. Chandler presided, and an excellent programme was rendered by Misses Leith and Howjohn, Messrs Perkins, Morrison and Rev. Foreman and Mesdames M- Hamilton, M. Thurlow & McKinley, and Masters Harrex and Howjohn. Mr W. Leask and the Naylor family giving instrumental pieces, and Mr Mclntyre acting as accompanyist- An enjoyable Dance was afterwards held, Mr J. Davies making an efficient M- C The noteworthy item of the programme was a Farce taken part in by Misses Dowdell and Lamont, and Messrs J- Morgan, W- Morrison and A. Mac Donald being greatly enjoyed by all present. A hearty vote of thanks to all performers was passed on the motion of the Chairman. It is expected that each Club will benefit by over £l6 as a result of this effort. The Becks Tennis Club held their annual meeting on Saturday, when Mr J. Mee presided. The balance-sheet showing a deficit of about £8 was adoptedIt was decided to effect several improvements at the Courts. Oct. 2ist was fixed for the opening day. The following officials were elected " for the ensuing year. President, Rev A- V. G- Chandler; Vice Presidents, Messrs JSheppard, Wm. Morrison, W. Armitage; Captain, Mr J. Mee; Deputy Captain, Mr T. H- Mee; Secretary, and Treasurer, Mr RMee. The St- Bathan's Tennis Club recently held a most successful Bazaar in the St Bathans Hall, and the sum of L 156 was raisedThe work of levelling a very difficult piece of land is being energetically pushed on, hundreds of tons of earth and debris being already shifted, as well as an immense weeping willow being removed, and it is hoped that two asphalt courts will be laid shortly. ; The Lauder Tennis Club has lost several of its members and will be somewhat weaker this year but with commendable determination they mean to keep going. Matakanui Tennis Club is flourishing and a Bazaar in aid of laying down up-to-date Courts is to be held this week, with the number of young and efficient players, and excellent Courts. Matakanui should do as well at Tennis as at Football, and that is saying a good deal. The Bazaar was a big success- * Members of the Clyde club are keen and full advantage is being taken of ihe two beautiful courts-
