PERSONAL.

Miss McGlone, (daughter of Sergt- and Mrs McGlone of Clyde) who was recently appointed to an important position in the Technical College at Invercargill, was, prior to her departure from Orfepuki, entertained at a Social by her many friends. From a lengthy report in the " Orepuki Advocate," we gather that Miss McGlone was very popular with all shades of the community, several speakers referring to her many sterling qualities; to her marked ability as a teacher; and to the keen interest she had taken in the sport of the place- of the townspeople, the Chairman of the School Committee presented Miss McGlone with an inscribed Gold Wrestlet Watch- * » * '.« •

Mr H.J- ("Major") Partridge' who underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Dunstan Hospital last week, is, we are are glad to say, making good progress towards recovery.

The many friends of Mrs TWilkinson (The Elms, Clyde) will be glad to learn that she is making a good recovery from a serious ilincss-

« « # • • A wedding which attracted quite a lot of local interest here, took place on Wednesday, 4th inst (writes our Matakanui correspondent). The contracting parties were members of two old and popular families— Miss Winnie Naylor, (daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Naylor) and Mr John Hamilton. The interesting contract was carried out at the residence of the bride's parents, where had assembled a large number of friends and wellwishers- The Rev- A- V. GChandler tied the nuptial knot while Miss Ridel (of Dunedin) was bridesmaid and Mr AlexHamilton was bestman. The wedding breakfast was held in a large maruqee, when a pleasant time was spent, the usual toasts being honoured- The honeymoon is being spent in the North Island, the young couples future home being North East Valley, Dunedin. In the evening Mr and Mrs Naylor entertained their friends in the Matak- Peace Hall, when there was a big crowd, and a jolly time was spent. A few nights before the wedding the bride was given a kitchen evening, when there was a big attendance. The wedding presents were a lovely lotThe Matron of the Dunstan Hospital desires to acknowledge with thanks donations in kind from Miss Dickie, Mrs Buchanan, Mrs Minehan, Mrs E. Iversen, and Messrs Edwards, S- A. Stevens, McElroy, P. Miller, JasMcArthur and A. Bodkin. The Rev. Dutton is at present visiting Central Otago. Yesterday he conducted services in the Lauder-Matakanui district. Mr J. E- Stevens (an old Clyde boy), who is 'retiring from the position of director of the Deaf and Dumb Institution at Sumner, intends to visit Great Britain. He will probably remain in the Home Land for several years-
