ONLY ONE DRAWBACK. PROHIBITION FOR WORKING MEN.

Nothing but rank ingratitude could account tor the decision of the American Federation of Labour to carry oh a campaign in New York for the "legalising of light wines and beers as beverages, in the interests of health, temperance, morality and law enforcement .*' When the Eighteenth Amendment hung in the balance the greatest employers of labour contributed liberally to the cause of taking beer away from the workman for his own good. Having laid in private stocks of considerable magnitude, they faced tl e prospect of dry and sober years for employees with immense enthusiasm. A sober employee works harder, more steadily, and brings in larger profits. The attitude of the employers was purely benevolent. It remains benevolent tu this day. There appears but one drawback .so far. The working men don't like it.. They fail to appreciate the anxiety for their welfare, which prevents then) from buying a glass of beer after a day's work. Perhaps the American Federation of Labour," asking itself j-obeily as it must, whether it prefers individual liberty and beer, or a few cents a week extra and nothing to drink, has plumped for human liberty.
