The sensation of the week came last night with the announcement that Great Britian is strongly reinforcing troops in Constantinople and is asking the dominions to send contingents in defence of the interests of Anzac in which they have already made enormous sacrificesThe British Government is asking to be in complete accord with France and Italy- The Turks have destroyed Smyrna by fire to cover their massacresOBITUARY. The death is reported of Mr Jas- Wallace, goods agent at Dunedin. GLOAMING WINS Gloaming turned the tables on Beauford at Rosehill on Saturday, defeating him decisively over a mile in I min 38} seconds. Mr Greenwood’s Tressayr ran third in the GuineasFOOTBALL. Otago beat Southland by 14 points to nil, running all over them in the final part of the game. Other rugby results: Wellington 25 beat Canterbury 9. Hawkes Bay 42 King Country 8. Sydney University 22 New Zealand Universities 19- This was the final test match and was won by Sydney in the last minute with a penalty.
