A fire broke out in the residence of Mr and Mrs R. Smith on Monday night between 11 and 12 o'clock. The occupants were awakened by the smell of smoke, and by that time the fire had a good hold. Mr and Mrs Smith at once set about to save as many articles as possible, but the fire was so fierce that the salvage amounted to very little. There was no wind blowing, but it was a cold foggy night. Very great sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Smith in their very unenviable and terrible experience. The insurance amounts to about £375 on both house and furniture combined, but this amount will fall far short of the value of many personal and treasured belongings. Mr and Mrs W. R. Nevill, and Mr J. Nevill, went to Lawrence on Tuesday by motor, to attend the wedding of Mr Robert Nevill to Miss J. Munro, of Whenukoa, Lawrence, which was to take place on Wednesday. The Bacheldr's and Spinster's combined Ball is to take place in the Moa Creek School on Sept. Bth. The weather has been very pleasant and warm for some time now. There were a few damp days at the beginning of this weak, but the weather has cleared again and Spring seems to have really come to stay. Several lambs have made their appearance in the neighborhood. Chaff-cutting has been in full swing in Moa Creek this week, and Mr J. Macadie's mill has been hard at work all week.
