HOCKEY.

The following team has been ' selected to represent Lake ! County in the match to be played ! against Vincent County at Crom--1 well on Saturday:-- Goal, MTompkies (Queenstown); fullbacks, M- Penglase, (Arrow), E. Paul (Queenstown), E. Mc Master (Arrow); forwards G. Tait, (Queenstown) G. Stevenson , (Arrow) M. Romans (Arrow) H. Robins, (Queenstown), EKennedy (Queenstown); emergency, E- Mackie (Arrow). The Vincent team has not yet been selected. There probably will, and certainly should be some changes in it- For instance Miss M. Manning, of the local club, is worthy of a place, being in my humble opinion, the best half back in the county. It is very nice to give all the representation but in the writer's opinion the best team should be selected, regardless of where the members come from.

THE TOURNAMENT. »

Those responsible for inaugurating the Hockey Tournament, which was held at Alexandra on Saturday last, are to be congratulated on the great success achieved It was only last season that hockey was taken up seriously in Vincent County, and up till comparatively recently the general public took little interest in it. Thanks, however to the good influence of one or two enthusiastic gentlemen:— particularly Mr R. Bringans, (Clyde), Mr Blackler (Cromwell), and Messrs Bell and W. Hewitt, (of Alexandra) who have acted as coaches in their respective towns, the standard of hockey was soon raised to such an extent that people began to talk about it and latterly Ihe Club games drew big crowds. This fact was well demonstrated at the Tournament under notice—there being a big attendance, people being present from all parts of the district, while teams competed from Tarras, Cromwell, Clyde, Alexandra, Roxburgh and Coal Creek The day was ideal for both players and spectators and fifteen teams competed, only one grade being played, but it is hoped that next year that either a B grade or School competition will be included. The tournament was well run. and was concluded in good lime. The Clyde. A learn proved to be the winners of the coveted first prize (gold broocbeO and well deserved their victory, winning all their games.comfortably, if not decisively. The Alexandra A team had the honour of being runners-up, but must consider. .hemselves fortunate in beating Cromwell A, who, though beaten by half a point had much the best of their tjame in the semi-final. The Clyde B learn too, after defeating the High A, had the bad luck to run up against the ultimate winners, otherwise they had >\ chance of being in the final. Messrs R. Bringans, Blackler, W. Hewitt and Searle were the referees. Results of the gamerFirst Round. Clyde A ;,, Tatras o Thj* latter team showed plenty of pace, but lacked combination Clyde B i, High School A o. The winner? easily demonstrated their superiority scoring three goals in the first three minutes.
