The Undaunted Sluicing Coy.'a return for last month is ioooz. The Electric Company has purchased the Alpine Consols dredge and claim, and property for the sum of £ iooo. The hard frosts experienced last week gave place yesterday to milder weather, a soft rain commencing to fall in the morning and continuing on at intervals all through the night and to-day,'with snow still falling on the high country. The river is still at high summer level, though not yet affected by the recent rain, and the prospect for the gorge dredges is not a hopeful one as only a very short season can now be looked for. The dredgemaster of the Rising Sun reports having dredged 134 hours and as the point has been dredged away the cut is now' coo yards in width. The dredge is about through the nest of big stones that were so troublesome. The drift was very bad all the week and seriously interfered with the return. The old cut has to be cleared of silt.
