THE TYPHOID OUTBREAK
Two cases of typhoid fever were reported from the Upper Clutha district last week, one beingat Lowburn and the other at Hawea Flat. The latter case has, unfortunately, terminated fatally, the victim being a young daughter of Mr David McLennan.
At Alexandra the disease is apparently still unchecked, as five more patients were admitted to the Dunstan Hospital during the week, making a total of 11 typhoid patients now in the institution. On Friday evening as the work was getting beyond the capabilities of the nursing staff the trustees wired to Dunedin for another nurse to assist. The housing accommodation is also getting seriously taxed, and if many more patients have to be admitted the providing of a temporary addition to the hospital building will have to be considered.
