GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT.

Messrs Dalgoty and Co. Ltd. report as follows

Wo held our usual weekly auction sale of grain and produce on Monday and submitted a moderate catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. Prices ruled as under :

Oats. - Prices rule much the same as last week, and Oats, not yet coming forward too freely keeps prices up to quotations. We quote: —Prime milling ].-; 7d to 1/74 d, Good to best feed Isijd to Is s;jd, Inferior to medium Is 2d to Is 4d. Wheat. In sympathy with the Home market prices have firmed slightly, but holders arc still not disposed to at prices ollered. We quote Prime milling 4/1 to 4/11, Medium 11/11 to 4s, Whole Fowl wheat ’l/9 to .‘l/10, Medium 3/4 to 3/7, Inferior 2/6 d to 3s per bushel sacks extra.

Potatoes,—Best sound samples meet with good competition and sold at 10s better that last week’s prices Strong inquiry for lines free from disease. We quote—Extra good up to £3-15s, Best freshly dug samples £3-7-6 to £3-12-6 medium £2-10-0 to £3-5-0. Chaff.—Prices are if anything a shade easier than last week. There is little really prime Chaff offering. We quote : We quote Extra prime £2-12-6, Prime £2-7-6 to £2-10-od, Medium £2 to £2 ss, Inferior and discoloured 35s to 40s.

Straw.—Wc quote Wbeaten 27/6 to 30s,Oaten 32/6 to 35s Dunedin, 10th May.

Stronach, Morris & Company Ltd., report for week ending 11th May as follows

Fat Sheep.-There was a large yarding of 3294, mostly medium quality. Prices for good quality sheep were much on a par with last week, but for ewes and medium quality prices were easier. Best wethers 15/6 to 17/0 ; good 13s Od to 11/6, light and inferior 11s to 12s ; best ewes Us 6d to 12s 6d ; extra to 14s 9d ; medium 8s to 9s ; light and inferior 6/0 to 7/0. Fat Lambs—There were 1100 penned, but prices were a little lighter than at last week’s sale. Good freezing lambs brought from 12s Od to 13s od;' extra 14s to 15s Od, medium 11s Od to 12s Od, stores 6s Od to 10s Od. Fat Cattle. There was a medium yarding o£ 215 head composed principally of good qudity steers and heifers. Quotes; Prime bullocks £B-10 to £9*ls ; extra to £lO 10s ; medium to good £7 0s to £8 ; light £6 5s to £6 15s; best cows and heifers £6 to £6-10 ; medium to good £4 10s to £5.

Pigs. —Owing to a small yarding prices for small pigs were a shade firmer, while porkers and baconers were also in good demand. We quote Suckers 11s to 14s Od ; slips 15s to 19s ; stores 20s to 255; porkers 33s to 465; light baconers 46s to 55s ; heavy do 58s to 60s. Rabbitskins—We held our fortnightly sale to-day when we ottered a very large catalogue. Bidding was very keen and prices fully up to last week’s. Quotations —Winter bucks and does, none forward ; incoming winters 13d to 15$ d ; best autumns 12d to 13d ; spring bucks lOd to 13d, spring does 8d to llfd, summers 71, d to 9|d, milky does Sid to 64d, mixed 6d to Bd, small 5d to 64d, hawk torn 44d to 6d, horsehair 18d to IBAd. Hides. We hold our usual fortnightly sale on Thursday, 13th inst, when we expect good prices to rule. Sheepskins. -We held our fortnightly sale to-day when we • ottered a good catalogue. The attendance of buyers was larger than usual and bidding was very brisk for all classes of skins, prices beintr fully up to late rates. Quotations Best 4-brcd, 6sd to 7sd ; medium to good 5d to iUd ; inferior 3sd to 4sd ; best fine x-bred 6(1 to 7d ; medium to good 4sd to ssd ; inferior 3d to 4d ; best merino 5d to 64d ; medium to good 3sd to 4ld ; pelts 3cl to 3Ad ; best lambskins 44d to 6jd ; medium to good 3d to 4d. Straw—Quotations—Oaten 32s 6d to 355; wheateu 39s to 32s 6d per ton (pressed). Tallow & Fat.—Prices are much the same as at last week’s report, all coming forward being readily disposed of. Oats.—During the past week the demand has not been so keen and prices have been somewhat easier. Prime Gartons are still in demand, but Sparrowbills and other sorts are not enquired for. Quotations Prime milling 1/6 to 1/7, good to best feed 1.44 to 1/5$ ; inferior to medium 1/3 to 1/4 per bushel (sacks extra). , , , . . Wheat—Owing to the market having receded somewhat in London and America business has practically ceased locally. There is good demand for best fowl wheat. We quote :—Prime milling 4s Id to 4s 2d, prime velvet up to 4s 2sd, medium 3s lid to 4s, whole fowl wheat 3s 9d to 3s lOd, medium 3s 5d to 3s Bd, inferior 2s 9d to 3s 3d per bushel. Chaff.— Theie have been large consignments of late, and prices show a 10s decline on last week’s rates botli for old and new chaff. Prime old heavy sheaf is in good demand, and sells at from £2-7-6 to £2-10 ; medium to good £2-2-6 to £2-5 ; best new chaff £2 7s 6d to £2 12-6, medium and inferior £llss to £2 per ton (bags extra). Potatoes.-Prices for good potatoes have improved slightly during the week owing to the large consignments of medium quality and lots badly affected with blight, and these are hard of sale. FVeshly dug samples bring up to £3 5s per ton ; goad £2 12s fid to £217 6d ; inferior to medium £2 26d to £2 7 6d. (bags in).
