OPENING OF THE NEW COURT HOUSE AT ALEXANDRA.
The new Court House at Alexandra was formally opened for business on Monday last the IGth instant by the Annual Meeting of tlio Licensing Commissioners for the Alexandra portion of the Dunstau district. The business having been got through, the occasion was taken advantage of by the Mayor and Councillors of the Town, the Licensing Commissioners, and a number of other gentlemen residents in the district to inaugurate the opening in a festive manner.
The usual foreshadowers of a festive gathering in the shape of champagne and other liquors being provided, toasts loyal and local were given and response 1 to in bumpers of the generous liquids. Mr Livers (Hie Mayor) proposed the health of Mr Simpson, 11.M. and Warden, and in the course of his remarks referred to the fact of Mr Simpson leaving the district to occupy tho .Resident Magistratorhip in Dunedin.
Mr Simpson in reply said ho was proud of the manner in which his health had been drank, and that he must record tho fact that tho erection of tho building they were now celebrating tho opening of was mainly owing to tho exertions of Mr James Samson, the late Mayor, to whom Alexandra was indebted for many of tho improvements how noticeable.
Mr’W. Thcyors in a happy congratulatory manner proposed the health of Mr A. D. Ijjrvcy, Clerk to the Dench, and said that
that gentleman had experienced many winters and summers in tho old building, and ho hoped that all the difficulties that obstructed business in the past would now ho removed, and that Alexandra would take the place in tho Dunstau district it was so justly entitled to. Mr Harvey replied, thanking MrThoyors for tho kindly manner ho had proposed his health, and the good wishes for him, and to those assembled fur tho hearty manner they had received it. The Company then separated.
