(from our correspondent.) Dunedin, Deo. sth. •the Otago steamship was totally wrecked off Chasland’s Mistake, a distance of about 'forty miles from the Bluff, yesterday morning. The passengers and crew were saved. December 7. Bismark said it is possible, but improba'ble that peace may he maintained—Germany will aid Austria if endangered, and hopes that England will not declare war with Russia. England is not likely to quietly allow Russia to occupy Stamboul, Briseis and Calumny are favorites for the Victorian Champion Race. An ex Mayor and J.P., and a well known 'Contractor resorted to a boxing bout in an fftotel—(will the J, P. fine himself ?) The Daily Times has turned its coat -again—the Star says it will acknowledge it as an ally, but attributes the change to the Times being appointed the Gazette. The Otago -is a perfect wreck, "she ran on Chasland’s rock in a fog ; Surveyors recommend her to be sold. The passengers have ■lost a good deal of luggage—of the 4000oz. ■of gold and cargo, it is improbable tbit ■much will be recovered. The San Francisco mail is espected to might. Later advices.—The wool market is firmer, and maintained, except inferior. The County Council elections has been .postponed till the 22nd. The error giving Manuherikia two members is rectified.
