DUNSTAN STRING RACES.

Friday and Saturday, 24th and 25th J September, 1875. The Dunstan Sp.-ing Race 'Meeting of 1875, may fairly claim to have been as snci ccssful as any meeting ever held on tho Dunstan Course, looking at it from any ono point of view, whether in the attendance of , visitors, the number of horses, the weather, or last, though not least, the generally straightforward and honest manner each ( event was contested ; there was. apparently, only one i lea with both owners of horses and jockeys, and that was to win, and as each team of horses went out of the saddling paddock to measure their powers of speed and endurance, a feeling of confidence f went out with them among the spectators , that the fastest horse was to win, consequently the enjoyment was real. The , meeting is now over, and we hope that every other one we witness on the same Course will be conducted in a like manner. Those remarks, though flattering to those 1 concerned, are penned in a true spirit, and 1 convey, we feel assured, the sentiments of everyone who was ono on the Course. The weather wag unusually fine, which added greatly to the pleasure. Tho total sura of money given away was exactly LI 00, and 1 by a reference to the detailed account of iho racing appended below, it will Ire seen that it was very evenly distributed amongst the owners of horses. Mr Fames discharged the part of Host at i the Orand Stand in his usual genial manner, ; anil wo think he was more than fairly pa- • tronised; while Messrs Jeffery and Fraser had charge of the eatables. ; Before closing these remarks we will again refer to a subject that appears to be com--1 , pletely lost sight of by the Jockey Club, rod that is, the fencing in of the Cotuaa,

It would not only vastly improve the Course but we led assured, and in which opinion wo are supported by many, that it would bo a paying speculation. First Day. Friday, 24th September.
