Ckkistchurch, This day. Joseph Brennan pleaded guilty in the S.M. Court this morning to altering a cheque from £1 to £10, and was remanded to thb Supreme Court for sentence. Henry James, licensee of the New Brighton Hotel, whs charged this morning" with illegally selling liquor to a traveller who it was contended lost his traveller's privilege after he had his first drink on arrival and then left the hotel. Mr Beetham, S.M., dismissed the case. The Canterbury Tennis Association have arranged to play an intercolonial tennis match against Victoria at Lanoaster Park on the 31st December. Dunedin, This day. The boiler makers' dispute came before the Conciliation Board this morning, but the proceedings fell to the ground owing to the failure of the union to comply with the Act of last session in regard to taking a ballot of the members on the question referring the dispute to the board. At the Education Board's meeting leave of absence was asked by the Board's inspector to enable him to attend the departmental conference at the end of January. It having been stated that the Board had not been communicated •with, Mr Mackenzie characterised it as another attempt to wipe out the Boards. The Board unanimously decided to rescind the motion raising the fees of the district high schools.
