DE WET.

In Laager Near Aliwal North.

The Defence of the Town.

(Received Dec. 8, 8 50 a.m.) London, Dec. 7. De Wet's force is laagered close to Aliwal North. With a view to 'providing for defence beyond that afforded by the Town Guard, upwards of a hundred strong, hundreds of loyalists of all classes at Aliwal North have gladly responded to the invitation and taken up arms. A number of Boer prisoners who were released when Dewetstdorp was occupied by the enemy, were placed in the fighting line, but, with the exception of the officers, they all abandoned the Krupp guns in the engagement near the south bank of the Caledon river.
