STOKE ORPHANAGE.

Two Brothers Discharged

Enquiry Closed.

[per press association.!

Nelson, Last night. The St. Mary's School Commission reresnmed this morning. Mr Pope, secretary of the Commission, g*ve evideuce. He examined the books of tbe school tor some hours. Assuming the good faith of the Brothers, all the money received from the State and Charitable Boards had been applied properly for J.he benefit of the school.

Mr Fell, counsel for the management, said that before anything was kuown of thfc intention of the enquiry, Dean Mahoney decided to discharge Brothers Kiliian and Webertus, against whom complaints had been made. Their services had been dispensed with. The Dean was determined, whatever the past might have been, that there should be no grounds for similar charges in the future. Other charges were contemplated which he could not then say further upon. Mr Bush intimated that the five years' limit for evidence would be granted if the Charitable Board desired it. Mr Harley, counsel for the Charitable Aid Board, said that though at the outset the Board wished an extension, they had been able te prove more than was anticipated. Then there were also the admissions on behalf of the management to practically the bulk of the charges made. It was unnecessary for the Board to go further, considering that they had done all that was required of them as a Board. Mr Bush pressed for a direct answer, but Mr Harley replied " No." Mr Bush said probably then there would be no further inquiry, seeing that the application for extension came fiom the Board, which they did not now desire. He thanked counsel for their assistance, which counsel reciprocated.
