EDUCATIONAL.

The Wellington Board's Position.

[fer press association.]

Wellington, Last night,

A meeting attended by about 150 teachers of the Wellington district was held to-night to consider the report of the sub-committee of the Educational Institute which was set up to consider the proposals of the Education Board in respect to the reduction of teacher's salaries aud the curtailment of some of the staff. The committee suggested that in order to bring their finances into order the Board should inform the Government that they can no longer carry on adult technical education, unless the Government find funds. The relief thus afforded would enable the Boa-d to bring materially their e'atf and salaries to a scale. If, however, the Board still determined to carry on the technical school they must adjust their finances by dismissing all the teachers above scale and reducing all salaries above. This would inflict grievous hardships on many teaehera and would disorganise many schools-, l.ut would not give the financial relief to be gained by discontinuing the support of the technical schools.

After a brief discussion the report was unanimously adopted, and it was decided to r.end copies ot it to tho Minister for Education and the Education Board.
