Two miners have been sent to prison for infringing the new alluvial mining regulation. Some hundreds of their mates, surrounding the railway carriage, were only prevented from forcibly rescuing the prisoners by the firmness of their leaders. They afterwards hanged Mr Winttenoon, Minister of Mines, in effigy from a telegraph pole. A meeting decided to ignore the regulations, and continue working.
