AN UNPOPULAR REGULATION.
TWO MINERS SENT TO GAOL. MINISTER OF MINES HANGED IN EFFIGY. United Press Association By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. (Beceived Maroh 8, 9.60 a.m.) Kalgookue, This day. Two miners have been sent to prison for infringing the new alluvial mining regulation. Some hundreds of their mates, surrounding the railway carriage, were only prevented from forcibly rescuing the prisoners by the firmness of their leaders. They afterwards hanged Mr Winttenoon, Minister of Mines, in effigy from a telegraph pole. A meeting decided to ignore the regulations, and continue working. Feeling run 3 very high throughout the mining districts.
