The final returns of the voting on the Methodist union question in New South Wales show :—For the union 10.G17, against union 3387 ; the total voting papers issued amounted to 23,183.
Melbourne, January 80.
Lord Brassey has communicated with the Premier, asking him to take steps to raise funds for the relief of the sufferers by the Indian famine. He adds that he intends to leave Wellington on his return on February 3rd.
Hobaut, January 30,
At the Federal Council the Hon. H. Byrnes, Queensland, moved in favor of making the Council elective and enlarging its power. Sir Henry Wrixon proposed an amendment that pending the holding of the Federal Convention they were unable to deal with the constitution of the Council. The voting being equal, both amendment and motion were withdrawn. The sittings have concluded. The next meeting has been fixed for Melbourne.
